This session will begin with foundational context around what is happening socio-politically in the U.S, as it relates to queer and trans communities. Then, participants will engage with a series of snapshots in time showcasing the existence, resilience and contributions of trans and queer folks throughout history, cultures and movements. In this session, we are to discuss the ongoing importance and value of sharing our stories amidst acts of anti-LGBT rhetoric, legislation and violence. Sharing our stories and counternarratives allows us to define our identities and experiences for ourselves. Despite attempts, our stories will not be dismissed, fabricated or erased.
Participants will be encouraged to write a letter to their younger selves as they reflect upon a series of questions around their own understandings of living fully and authentically. This workshop is to be delivered at One Colorado's Queer Youth Summit.
