Hi, I’m SAM CASANOVA,

Sam Casanova (she/they) is the founder of The P Word, LLC (see below), a Sex Educator and Researcher who facilitates and designs curriculum that centers the needs and experiences of folks on the margins, specifically queer and trans people of color (QTPOCs) by using data and narratives from their Community Ed Interview Series. With over 7 years of teaching experience, Casanova currently hosts a variety of workshops and conversations centering pleasure, love and intimacy through a reproductive justice lens.

Casanova also serves as a member of the Denver LGBTQ+ Commission and works as the Events Director for Sex Down South and SLAE (Sexual Liberation and Arts Education). Casanova is also the Business Manager for Velvet Lips Sex Ed.

Prior, Casanova worked as a Humanities teacher with a focus on storytelling and lived experience. Casanova has a Bachelor's Degree in both English and Theater as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching. Casanova has published works including “Centering Black Bodies, Black History and Black Wellness within Sex Ed” (2023)  "Cafe con Leche" (2017) and "I asked out Molly" (2014) as a way to celebrate and uplift QTPOC experiences. As an Afro-Caribena born and raised in Miami, FL, Casanova actively centers pleasure, identity and storytelling in their advocacy and encourages others to do the same.

ABout The P Word

At The P Word, we love, organize and co-exist at the intersection of justice, safety and pleasure, dedicated to centering the experiences of queer and trans folks of color. We believe in the dreamy (but feasible) notion that everyone deserves a life filled with pleasure, safety, and community connection.

We provide Love, Intimacy, Pleasure, and Sex (LIPS) Education through an intersectional, justice-forward, pleasure-oriented lens. Afrosexology reminds us that our bodies are not sites that can solely experience harm, abuse and violence; but instead are sites capable of love, liberation, and pleasure.

Audre Lorde taught us that we are not to settle for things that are not natural to us and our bodies, including oppression, self-doubt, harm, imposter syndrome and violence. Instead, at the P Word, we encourage community members to dare to dream and reimagine a world that prioritizes safety and sustainability for all us, on all lands. With information, comes responsibility and the ability for folks to make the most informed decisions for themselves and their communities.

Intersectional and comprehensive education means delving into all aspects of our identities, backgrounds, hi(stories) and experiences—not just the comfortable ones. At the P-Word, we recognize that we must be bold enough live, exist and “be” in the future; because our reality isn’t sufficient. And isn’t one we devised. Instead, imagine, dare to dream, that a world exists where we can all tap into our erotic and our own elements within intimacy.

At the P Word, we co-create communities and learning spaces where love, pleasure, and compassion unapologetically and actively disrupt systems of organized state violence. As our founder, Sam Casanova, always says: “I want that full-bodied ‘yessssss’ for all of us, in whatever form it takes!”

“We must recognize that our identities, positionalities and experiences inform our ability to access and experience Love, Intimacy, Pleasure and Sex.”

“WECLOMe to the P Word”

The P WOrd mission & Vision

At The P Word LLC, our mission is to celebrate and uplift the identities and experiences of queer and trans folks of color. We provide Love, Intimacy, Pleasure, and Sex (LIPS) Education through a community-informed, intersectional, justice-forward, pleasure-oriented lens in order to support community members in making the most informed decisions for themselves. Audre Lorde taught us that we are not to settle for things that are not natural to us and our bodies, including oppression, self-doubt, harm, imposter syndrome and violence. At the P Word, we believe in the dreamy (but feasible) notion that everyone deserves a life filled with pleasure, safety, and community connection, by any. means. necessary.

Our vision at The P Word LLC is to reimagine communities in a world where QTPOC identities, bodies and experiences are celebrated and respected as pillars of pleasure, love, and liberation. We envision a future where our community members have the confidence, tools and insights needed to implement pleasure and “feeling good” in their relationships, interactions and lives. Through community-informed, intersectional, justice-forward, pleasure-oriented education and advocacy, we aim to dismantle all systems of organized state violence and design spaces where full-bodied "yesss" in all its forms is not only possible but celebrated. Together, we are redefining pleasure, love, and compassion to pave ample ways for a more expansive, affirmed and liberated society.
